ULTRA History

India got its first Ultra in 2007 when a group of eclectic runners came together and decided that it was time we had one. With the idea in place, the core group set out earnestly to turn their collective dreams into reality. The registrations got off to a infamous start with the physical forms of the first 13 registrants being lost in transit! Thankfully, the data was recovered and the event rolled out in style. The event was a grand success with 247 runners pounding the trail at Our Native Village, Hessarghatta, which has since become the battle field where runners test their audacity every November. Runners ran distances ranging from 26k - 72k and some even kept their legs moving for 12 hours! The stage was set for the Ultra to be an annual event.

The 2008 edition witnessed the birth of 100 K category - the mother of all distances at the Bangalore Ultra. Runners could also register online making registrations, a click away.  In total, 350 runners took part in the 2nd edition of the Bangalore Ultra and had a great time running the Ultra.

Yasuhiro Honda came, Yasuhiro Honda saw & Yasuhiro Honda conquered!  - 2009 saw Honda San blazing the Ultra trail by setting a course record in the 100 K category. Oh did we forget to mention - The Flying Jap took part in the Senior Category! Along with Honda, more the 600 runners took part at Ultra 2009 and soaked their shoes in red - the color of the Ultra trail.

2010 was a great year for running in the country and Ultra was no different. Registrations for the 2010 edition commenced in December 2009 and the Ultra was sold out a good month before race day. Due to the overwhelming response, we opened up a Evening Category for the 12.5 K & 25 K categories. Accurate timings were provided courtesy to the introduction of RFID timing chips in all our races. Race day felt like a big family re-union with runners from different parts of the country & the world coming together to celebrate the joy, madness and the love called running.
